Bond Typography

November 15, 2008

While Bond might indeed be mindless and unrealistic action, I have grown up with this character and awe for those amazing first few minutes of the famous title sequences… I wasn’t too disappointed this time around. With lots of sand and motion, it had its own feel to keep things fresh – but was definately within the strong Bond tradition of dazzling and flashy titles.

I was even more delighted with the typography throughout the film with each location introduction. Each was set in regional appropriate type: beautiful flowing serif for Italy, colorful block type for Haiti, and hard edged serif for Germany. I was captured with sheer delight! I couldn’t find any samples online, but I hope some will appear as the movie makes its run.

Also a fun facto I found in my google searches – the movie title font shown above is Neutraface. I’ve recently started working with this one (created by House Industries designed in homage of Los Angles architect Richard Neutra) for All Saints’ Episcopal Church. That’s pretty good range for a font!
